Purig hospitality

In our valley, a guest is not a customer

Barula is Purigi stay — the Kargil side of Ladakh, where hosting is the oldest craft we have. Tea arrives before the paperwork. Someone always knows the road conditions, the right driver, the day the apricots turn.

Guests tell us the same three things: the staff, the food, and the quiet. We would rather be known for those than for a lobby chandelier.

Tea first
However late you reach, however long the Zoji La took — you sit down and something hot arrives.
We know the road
Pass status, permits, a driver we trust. Ask at the desk before you plan your day.
Cooked for you
Jain, vegetarian, no onion-garlic, a child who only eats plain rice. Say it once.
Nothing rushed
Late checkout when the room is free, breakfast held for a 4 a.m. departure.

Food that tastes like someone’s home, because it is

Breakfast is included and served hot. Dinner is cooked to order — local Purigi and Ladakhi dishes, Indian and Kashmiri standards, and butter tea whenever you ask. Vegetarian, Jain and no-onion-garlic meals are normal here, not a favour; tell us a day ahead and it is handled.
